Back to the aleph-bet bet

Back to the series on the use of the letters as grammatical units and not just phonemes....Presenting the bet.

  1. Shalom,
I have been looking at the word "Shabbat" lately. Taking notice that it has two bet's. I know many people starting to feel that to truly rest on sabbath, is to stay home. Do you think that the word Shabbat itself gives this instruction:"IN" the tent or house??
    Shalom,

    1. Shalom, Moira.
I would not read too much into the change between shabbat with a dagesh and one without. You can see this root without the dagesh in Exodus 31:17. The dagesh is a function of the grammar, not so much the meaning.
How you choose to celebrate this appointment with Abba is according to your conscience. We are commanded not to do our daily work, not to let our slaves (ooh, that I had that luxury) to work, not to let our animals work, not to buy or sell and not to kindle a fire.
I know people who do stay at home. I would only advise you to be sure that you have an adequate amount of time in community prayer, praise and worship, midrash and other activities during the week. As it is written: Do not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. For many, shabbat is the best time for this.
      YHWH bless you. Marcy
